My Rock n Roll Fantasy!

There are many interpretations of what people consider rock n roll.  If you are reading this I would go out on a limb and say that you and I probably agree on what we consider rock n roll.  Also if you are reading this it is safe to say that somewhere along the way you have day dreamed of being a rock star of some sort or thought of all the songs you would like your favorite band to cover.  If you are lucky enough maybe you have had the opportunity to meet some of your favorite musicians and if you are really lucky you have had a backstage pass or two over the years.  All of this would fall under the Rock n Roll fantasy umbrella.  My fantasy happens to be two pronged if you will.
The first part of my Rock n Roll Fantasy pertains to the bands I have yet to see or never had the chance to.  The bands would be Led Zeppelin of course, Guns n FUCKING Roses and Black Sabbath.  If all things in life were possible I would have a time machine big enough to fit myself and my dear friend Rusty Snow, who by the way might be the only person that hears rock n roll the way I do.  We would pick the high point years of each of these bands and bang our heads without any thought of tomorrow and the consequences that might come later.  I would spend any amount of money to obtain two front row tickets for Led Zeppelin in late 77 so my friend and I could witness rock n roll perfection.  I can only imagine what it would be like with my whiskey in my hand, my friend by my side and "No Quarter" blasting right in my face.  These are things dreams are made of for sure.  The next stop on my fantasy tour would be Black Sabbath 1978 some where along the Never Say Die tour.  There is nothing like Ozzy Osbourne in his prime.  If you do not believe me just you tube Snowblind 1978 and you will become a believer.  A little taste of the times and a few hours with Ozzy, Tommy Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward blaring their anti war and occult tunes will surely make one a stronger and weirder person and I am all in!  The last stop on our fantasy tour would be the two nights in 1989 when Guns n Roses opened for the Rolling Stones at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. I would love to up the anti on this one to have not only front row seats but back stage passes so I could be a fly on the wall when Jagger and Clapton approach Axl and confront him about kicking Bowie's ass the night before for hitting on his girlfriend.  Shortly followed by one of the best GnR shows ever. How wild would that night be?  GnR opening for the Rolling Stones with front row seats and backstage passes!  I am sure that would be a story for the ages. All of this of course is more about the opportunity to see these great moments in rock n roll history with my close friend than anything else!
The second part of my Rock n Roll fantasy has come true, sort of.  As an aspiring writer there is nothing I would love more than to be able to spend time with rock n roll musicians, favorites or not, and to be able to work with them in any shape form or fashion. Since Michael Cole (Little Mikey Colfax) and I started Colfax Radio back in February this dream has come to fruition.  We have interviewed countless bands most local some not.  We have started streaming all the shows at Pete's Monkey Bar.  We are planning our second officially sponsored show, which I have been able to pick the bands along with being a part of planning the set lists.  For those of you that came to the Sweet Home Alabama benefit you know the Colfax Radio Kick Off Party "A Night in the Life on Colfax" Featuring the Whappers and Dorian Vibe will blow your doors off.  Steve Homan (Dorian Vibe) and I had a long conversation about the All-Star Super Jam we are planning and the songs that are going to be played.  Now in some folks eyes this might seem like small potatoes.  For those of you that know me well, you know this is a dream come true!  So please mark your calendars accordingly for July 15th.  I promise you this is a show you do not want to miss.  Stay tuned to Colfax Radio for more details.  Our special guests will be announced soon!
One last thing.  Be sure and get your asses out to Pete's Monkey Bar tonight for CR Gruver's Voodoo Groove. The first set will be CR solo, playing songs by Dr. John, professor Longhair, James Booker and others.  The second set will be a full band featuring Chadzilla on drums, Damon Wood on guitar and Fleeb on bass.  This is going to be a high-energy swampy funk experience.  Show starts at 9 PM!  See you all tonight!

  1. MY R&R fantasy may have occurred last night. Tornados, drugs for everyone, a 3-way all-girl hippy make-out sessions in a streamy bathroom for our virewing enjoyment during the postponment, & my lawn tix turned into front row for the whole 2nd set...
Maybe not a fantasy but fantastic, none-the-less...
